Why we built this practice, and how we approach patient care.
Built deliberately, from the ground up.
Sunstone Dental is a single-dentist practice by design. It is structured so that care can be unhurried and consistent.

You see the same dentist each visit, so your history, your preferences, and your plan stay in one place.
-

Why we built this practice
Every meaningful story has a beginning. Ours began on an ordinary evening in Boston.
It was late — around eight o'clock — inside the quiet lounge of the Countway Library at Harvard Medical School. I had just finished a long day of dental school classes. Linzi, who was in graduate school at Harvard at the time, had come to meet me. It was only our fifth date.
Neither of us had eaten dinner yet. Not because we were busy, but because we were curious — about each other, about our stories, about what might unfold between us.
We had recently discovered something almost unbelievable: although we had grown up in the same hometown, we had never met until we both travelled thousands of miles to Boston. Sometimes life works that way.
That night, Linzi asked me a question that caught me completely off guard. "What kind of life do you want ten years from now?" Not a career question. Not the kind of question you hear in dental school interviews. She meant something deeper. What would your mornings look like? Who would you wake up next to? What kind of work would give your days meaning?
For a moment, I had no answer. Dental school trains you to diagnose cavities and read X-rays — but it doesn't often ask you to imagine the life you want to build.
So I thought. And slowly, the words came. I told her I wanted a life where I could truly help people: relieve their pain, answer their questions, and make them feel cared for. I wanted the freedom to practise dentistry with integrity and intention, rather than simply rushing through appointments. And, if I was being honest, I wanted a life that included her.
That night was the first time I ever said out loud something I had quietly imagined for years: one day, I wanted to build a dental practice of my own. Not just a clinic — but a place built around values.
The idea that never left
The years that followed were full of training, long hours, and difficult lessons. Dental school. Residency. Associate positions in private practices.
Dentistry is a demanding profession. Anyone inside the field knows that beneath the surface there are pressures — production targets, insurance constraints, and systems that sometimes prioritise speed over care.
But the idea from that night in the library never left me. If anything, those experiences strengthened it. I kept thinking about the kind of practice that could exist if it were built deliberately, from the ground up, with patients, integrity, and community at the centre.
The moment everything became real
In 2026, our life entered a new chapter. Our daughter was born city TBC.
During my paternity leave — stepping away from the daily pace of clinical work for the first time in years — I finally had the space to think clearly about the future. Linzi and I started revisiting that conversation from the library again. Except this time, it wasn't a dream. It was a decision.
With years of training behind us and a shared vision, we decided it was time to build something of our own. This practice would become our first major project together.
Building something worth trusting
Like any proud parents, we want what we create to be both excellent and meaningful. Dentistry can be complicated. The industry moves quickly, technologies change, and business models evolve. But the core of good care should remain simple: trust, skill, and genuine attention to each patient.
Our goal is not to become the biggest clinic in the city. Our goal is to become the practice people quietly recommend to someone they love. The kind of place where patients feel comfortable asking questions, where they never feel rushed, and where they leave feeling that someone truly listened.
There is an old saying that captures our philosophy well: deep waters flow quietly. Meaningful work often grows steadily over time, not through noise or shortcuts.
Our promise to the community
We aren't just starting a business. We are building something personal — a place where our training, our values, and our family story come together in service of the community that welcomed us.
We hope that when you walk through our doors, you feel something different: not just in the technology or the design, but in the intention behind it. Because to us, dentistry is not just about teeth. It is about trust. And trust, like anything meaningful in life, is built one relationship at a time.
