Dentistry built with intention.
Sunstone Dental was designed around continuity, thoughtful planning, modern dentistry, and the time to make informed decisions about your care.
Five decisions that shape how you are treated here.
Sunstone is a single-dentist practice by design. Most of what patients notice about a visit follows from that one decision.
-
One primary dentist
You see the same dentist at every visit, so your history, your preferences, your goals, and your long-term plan stay connected rather than being pieced together again each time.
-
Time to understand your options
Appointments are scheduled with room for questions and for a real discussion. Depending on what we find, the options may include treating something now, monitoring it, or doing nothing for the time being.
-
Comprehensive care under one roof
General, restorative, implant, cosmetic, and selected surgical treatment can often be coordinated within the same practice when that is clinically appropriate. When a specialist is the better answer, we will say so.
-
Modern technology with a purpose
We invest in equipment when it improves diagnosis, planning, precision, or how clearly something can be explained — not for its own sake. Digital imaging, digital scanning and planning, and the ability to make some treatment on site are here because of what they change.
-
Independent, dentist-led care
The practice is owned and led by the dentist who treats you. It is built around that relationship, which is what keeps decisions about time, materials, and planning with the person actually providing the care.
Comprehensive care doesn’t necessarily mean more treatment.
It means looking closely enough, and knowing enough, to tell the difference between something that needs attention now, something worth watching, and something best left alone.
-
Treat now
Problems that should be addressed because of symptoms, how quickly they are progressing, the risk of leaving them, or the effect they are having on how you eat and speak.
-
Monitor
Findings that appear stable and can reasonably be watched — recorded at each visit and compared over time, so a change is picked up early rather than late.
-
Leave alone
Findings that may not need treatment at all. An older restoration or a small imperfection does not automatically need replacing.
Which of the three applies is a clinical judgment, made case by case. What should be consistent is that you are told the reasoning behind it, and that asking what happens if you wait is a fair question.
Technology earns its place when it makes care clearer, more precise, and easier to understand.
A longer list of equipment does not make treatment better. What follows is here for what it changes: what can be seen, how carefully something can be planned, and how much of it can be shown to you while you are still in the chair.
-
Digital imaging
X-rays on screen beside you, so a finding can be pointed at and explained rather than described.
-
3D imaging
CBCT scans when a flat image cannot answer the question — assessing bone before implant treatment, for example.
-
Digital scanning
A scan in place of impression material for many procedures, and a record that can be compared at later visits.
-
Digital planning
Restorations and implant positions designed and reviewed before treatment starts, rather than decided along the way.
-
Made in-house
Milling and 3D printing on site, so some treatment can be completed without a long wait between appointments.
One dentist. One treatment philosophy.
Sunstone Dental is led by Dr. Jimmy Wei, who plans and carries out treatment himself. He earned his dental degree at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and continued with advanced clinical training through a residency at UCLA.
That background shapes how he practices today: the mouth is treated as part of the body, and a recommendation has to make sense clinically and in the rest of your life.

Why we built Sunstone
Dr. Jimmy Wei and his wife, Linzi, met in Boston while they were both studying at Harvard — he in dental school, she in graduate school. Some of their earliest conversations were about the kind of life they wanted to build, and what a dental practice would have to look like to belong in it.
The answer took years to arrive. Dental school, then residency, then associate positions in private practices across the country — the East Coast, the West Coast, and eventually Texas. Each one taught him something, and not only clinically. He saw how much the shape of a schedule affects the quality of a conversation, how differently the same treatment plan can land depending on how it is explained, and how easily continuity is lost when a patient sees a different dentist each visit.
By the time they decided to build something of their own, they knew what they were trying to protect. Sunstone was designed around continuity, so one dentist stays responsible for a patient’s care. Around time, so appointments leave room for questions and for options to be explained honestly — including the option to wait. And around the standard he would want for his own family, in the treatment itself and in everything around it.
Our goal is not to become the biggest dental practice. We want to become the kind of practice people recommend to someone they love.
Common Questions About Care at Sunstone
Can I get most of my dental treatment in one office?
Sunstone Dental provides a broad range of general, restorative, cosmetic, implant, emergency, and surgical care in one Richmond office. Dr. Wei can often plan different stages of treatment together so your care stays connected. If a specialist would be the better choice for part of your treatment, we will tell you that clearly.
