They may be used for

  • Cracked or weakened teeth

  • Severely worn or damaged teeth

Root Canal Treatment Care to save a tooth when the pulp is inflamed, infected, or damaged.

Root canal treatment is used to save a tooth when the soft tissue inside the tooth, called the pulp, becomes severely inflamed, infected, or damaged. During treatment, the affected pulp is removed, the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and sealed, and the tooth is then restored for long-term function.

You may need a root canal if you have

  • Persistent tooth pain or pain when biting
  • Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold
  • A deep cavity that reaches or comes very close to the pulp
  • A small pimple or red bump on the gum near a tooth
  • An infection seen on a dental X-ray, even when there is little or no pain

Our goal: relieve discomfort, treat the infection, and preserve your natural tooth whenever possible.

Dr. Wei evaluates each tooth and may recommend treatment here or a referral to an endodontist when that is the better fit.

Dental Emergencies Same-day visits for pain, swelling, broken teeth, and trauma.

Dental emergencies can happen at any time, which is why we reserve same-day emergency appointments each day whenever possible. We’ll evaluate the problem, help address your discomfort, and recommend treatment based on your individual situation—because emergency treatment is always case by case.

We commonly see emergencies involving

  • Severe toothaches or sudden sensitivity
  • Swelling or dental infections
  • Broken or cracked teeth
  • Lost or broken fillings and crowns
  • Dental trauma
  • Teeth that may need root canal treatment
  • Teeth that may need extraction

Depending on what we find, treatment may involve a filling, crown repair, root canal treatment, extraction, medication, or other appropriate care.

Common questions

Common Questions About General Dentistry

How often should I have a dental exam and cleaning?

Many patients come in about every six months, but the right schedule is not exactly the same for everyone. Your gum health, cavity risk, previous dental work, and current oral health can all affect how often we recommend seeing you.

What is the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?

A regular cleaning is preventive care for generally healthy gums. A deep cleaning, also called scaling and root planing, cleans farther below the gumline when there are signs of periodontal disease. We determine which one you need by examining your gums rather than choosing based on a schedule alone.

How do I know if I need a filling or a crown?

A filling is often enough for a smaller cavity or limited area of damage. A crown or onlay may make more sense when a tooth has lost more structure, has a large existing filling, or is cracked or weakened. An exam and X-ray help us see how much healthy tooth is left.

How do I know if I need a root canal?

Persistent tooth pain, pain when biting, lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling, or a small bump on the gum can all be signs that the nerve inside a tooth needs attention. Some teeth need root canal treatment without causing much pain, which is why the exam and X-ray matter.

Are tooth-colored fillings a good option for cavities?

They are a good option for many cavities. Tooth-colored composite can restore the damaged area while blending with the surrounding tooth and preserving healthy structure. The size and location of the cavity and the forces on that tooth still matter, so sometimes another restoration is more appropriate.
