Same-Day Crowns in Richmond, TX

Crowns, bridges & onlays designed and made in-house.

When a tooth needs more than a filling, some crowns, bridges, and onlays can be scanned, designed, and made at our Richmond office — often in a single visit. Convenient for patients from Katy and Fulshear. This is restorative care within general dentistry, and it can also be part of a plan when appearance matters.

What is same-day dentistry?

Designed, milled, and finished here

Same-day dentistry means the restoration is planned and made in the office rather than sent out to a laboratory. A digital scan captures the tooth, the restoration is designed while you are here, and an in-house mill or 3D printer fabricates it — so some visits can finish without weeks of waiting on a temporary.

A same-day visit is not always the right path. Shade, bite, gum health, and the complexity of the case all matter. We’ll explain whether it is appropriate, and what the alternative would be.

The restorations

Crowns, onlays & bridges

These are custom ceramic restorations that strengthen a tooth or replace a missing one, and that are shaded to blend with the rest of your smile.

  • Crowns

    Full coverage and protection

A crown covers the whole visible part of a tooth. It is used when a tooth is cracked, heavily filled, or needs more protection than a filling can give.

The aim is a restoration that feels comfortable, functions well, and looks like the teeth around it.

  • Onlays

Repair what is damaged, keep the rest

An onlay covers only the damaged portion of a tooth — often the chewing surface and cusps — so more of your own structure can stay.

When the remaining tooth is sound, an onlay can be a more conservative choice than a full crown.

  • Bridges

Replace one or more missing teeth

A bridge fills a gap by anchoring to the teeth on either side. It can restore the look of a missing tooth and help you chew more evenly.

A bridge is one option for a gap; an implant is another. We’ll explain which fits your mouth.

Why patients choose same-day care

Fewer visits. More control. A natural-looking result.

In-house fabrication is about precision and timing — not rushing a restoration that should be sent out.

  • Fewer visits

When the case allows, the restoration can be fitted the same day — without weeks of waiting on a temporary.

  • Digital precision

A scan often replaces impression material, which many patients find more comfortable and which captures fine detail.

  • Made in the office

Design, milling, and finishing happen here, so adjustments can be made while you are still in the chair.

  • Natural-looking ceramic

Shade, shape, and translucency are matched to the teeth beside the restoration — not a stock colour from a kit.

  • Conservative options

If an onlay can protect the tooth without covering all of it, that is usually the starting point — not a full crown by default.

  • One dentist throughout

Dr. Jimmy Wei plans, prepares, and seats the restoration — from the first scan through to the finished tooth.

Are you a candidate?

When a filling is no longer enough

Crowns, onlays, and bridges are considered when a tooth needs more strength, coverage, or a missing tooth needs replacing. An examination confirms what is appropriate.

  • Cracked or broken tooth
  • Large or failing filling
  • Root canal treated tooth
  • Worn or weakened tooth
  • A missing tooth
  • Needs more strength than a filling

A same-day restoration is not right for every case. Active infection, an unpredictable bite, or a shade that needs extra laboratory work may call for a different timeline — which is why we start with a thorough evaluation.

What to expect

From scan to seated restoration

When a same-day visit is appropriate, the path is straightforward. If it is not, we’ll say so before anything is started.

  1. Consultation & exam

We look at the tooth, the bite, and whether same-day is a good fit

  2. Digital scan

A scan captures the tooth — often in place of impression material

  3. Design in the chair

The restoration is designed and reviewed before it is made

  4. Milled or printed here

An in-house mill or 3D printer fabricates the restoration

  5. Fitted and bonded

The piece is adjusted, finished, and seated before you leave

Realistic expectations

Stronger, natural-looking — not rushed

A well-planned crown, onlay, or bridge should look like it belongs with the teeth around it and feel comfortable when you bite. Results depend on the starting tooth, the material, and how the restoration is cared for over time.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Same-day is offered when the case allows — not as a promise for every tooth
  • Some shades and more complex cases are still better sent to a laboratory
  • Crowns and bridges need the same daily care as natural teeth
  • A night guard may be recommended if you grind your teeth
  • Restorations may need replacement eventually, depending on wear and care

We do not promise a specific timeline or a guaranteed appearance from a photograph or a website. Your consultation is where we look at what is realistic for your tooth and talk through whether same-day care — or a different approach — is the right fit.

Why patients choose Sunstone for same-day restorations

Restorative care here is planned and carried out by one dentist, Dr. Jimmy Wei — from the first scan through to the restoration that finishes it.

  1. In-house technology

Scanning, milling, and 3D printing on site mean some treatment can be completed without a long wait between appointments.

  2. Conservative approach

Healthy tooth structure is kept wherever it can be. If a smaller restoration — or no treatment — is the better option, we’ll say so.

  3. Honest recommendations

If same-day is not right for your tooth, you will hear that plainly, along with what would work better — and why.

Common questions

Common Questions About Same-Day Crowns

Can a crown be made the same day?

Yes, in many cases. At Sunstone Dental, selected crowns can be digitally scanned, designed, made, and placed in our Richmond office during one visit. Same-day treatment is not right for every tooth, though. The tooth, bite, gum health, material, and shade all matter, and we’ll tell you when a traditional lab-made crown would make more sense.

How much does a same-day crown cost?

The cost depends on the tooth, the type of restoration, and the material being used. A same-day crown is still a custom dental crown, so there is not one price that applies to every case. After examining the tooth, we’ll give you a written treatment plan and cost before treatment begins.

Are same-day crowns more expensive than traditional crowns?

Not necessarily. Same-day crowns avoid the separate temporary-crown visit and outside laboratory process, but that does not automatically make them more or less expensive. The final cost depends on the restoration and your specific case. We recommend same-day treatment because it fits the tooth — not simply because it is faster.

How long does it take to get a same-day crown?

Plan on a longer single appointment rather than two separate visits. The tooth has to be prepared and scanned, then the crown is designed, made, finished, adjusted, and bonded. The exact appointment time varies by the tooth and restoration, so we’ll give you a realistic estimate when treatment is scheduled.

Are same-day crowns worth it?

For the right case, the biggest advantage is convenience: you may be able to leave with the finished restoration instead of wearing a temporary crown and returning for a second visit. But speed is not the priority. If a lab-made restoration would give us a better result for your tooth, bite, or shade, that is what we’ll recommend.

Is it better to pull a molar or get a crown?

If a molar can be predictably restored, keeping your natural tooth is usually worth considering before removing it. A crown or onlay may protect a cracked or weakened tooth, while a tooth that is badly fractured, infected, or no longer restorable may need extraction. We look at how much healthy tooth remains before recommending either option.
